Until recently, Joanna Pawlik was known primarily as a painter. Her 2005 series entitled "Prześwietlone" ("Overexposed") introduced an important theme of searching on the borderline between fate and destiny, which was to become regularly recurrent. Her videos presented in a show entitled “Spacer” (“The Walk”) are evidence of the artist’s quest beyond the realm of painting.

The characteristic feature pertaining all films presented at Czarna Gallery is their minimalistic approach as to the choice of technical means of expression. Recorded from one pot, in one shot with no additional light. The person behind camera is the artist herself. he intimacy of this manner results in astonishing effect of rendering even the triflest mong activities performed by the artist in front of the camera look out of the ordinary.

The special character of the “Spacer”/”Walk” show demands special environment - with that in mind, Czarna has prepared a dark room dedicated specifically to the occasion, in which a viewer, isolated from the outside world has the chance of experiencing the work up close and personal.
