The title „Nie-pokój” [in Polish: un-room, non-room and at the same time a homophone of ‘anxiety’] is metaphorically related to the idea behind the exhibition’s mode of presentation which is somewhere between a salon, a cabinet of rarities and an art collection presented i semi-private circumstances. The concept arose at the crossing point between the analysis of collected works and the architectural form endowed to present them in by Olaf Brzeski. His work, the most explicit of them all, provides an artful framework in dialogue with other works and exhibition’s presentation system at the same time
Ambiguity of the works is reminiscent of dadaism and surrealism traditions with their broad spectra of meanings,, starting from objects of desire, sensual fantasies to anxieties, the dark subconscious and meterialisation i the three-dimmensional form of black humour. One common denominator between all the works would be their reversed functionality of everyday use, which by taking them out of the usual context, endows them with new and intriguing meanings. Among the presented works, viewers shall find the ‘perverse’ badges by Jadwiga Sawicka, objects-photographs by Teresa Gierzyńska, porcelain painterly objects by Olaf Brzeski and Sławek Rumiak’s multimedia installation.

The exhibition is organized with kindly support of Instytut Adama Mickiewicza
